In 1984, NANN was founded and I was born! I’m Courtney Prewitt, Midwest girl at heart (Indiana to be exact)- adopted by the great state of Texas. I completed my BSN at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana (Boiler Up!) and relocated to Texas at the tender age of 22. I didn’t choose Neonatal Nursing, it chose me.
After receiving offers from Adult Med Surgery, Adolescent Care, Renal and Endocrine… I knew for sure these specialties weren’t for me. I took a chance and applied for a Graduate Nurse position in the NICU IV at Texas Children’s Hospital. Eight years later, it is still one of the best gifts I’ve ever received. Just knowing that I have impacted a life, a family, an experience is very humbling. After five years at the bedside, I made the transition into Nursing Leadership, in which I’ve completed three years as a Patient Care Manager. My latest journey is transitioning into the role of Assistant Clinical Director in NICU IV. Although packaged a little differently, Nursing Leadership brings great rewards as well such as: empowering, inspiring, influencing and developing great leaders.
I am involved in NANN because it is a great organization that wholeheartedly believes in and invests in the advancement of Neonatal Nursing. I’m so excited that NANN has embraced the “Blogging Community” with you in mind. Whether your goal is to network, advance in nursing, discuss patient care, or relax after a hard day…I want to hear from you.
To NANN, cheers to 30 years of outstanding work and for being trendsetters and innovators in the world of Neonatal Nursing.
I’m looking forward to this new adventure and I hope you are too!!!
